1. Munnabhai MBBS
Rajkumar Hirani’s film became a huge box office hit after its release. The movie, which delivered a social message with comedy, was loved by both the audience and critics. Shah Rukh Khan was first offered the role of Munna Bhai, but he couldn’t do the film because he was recovering from surgery at that time.
2. Lagaan
Ashutosh Gowariker’s ‘Lagaan’ was even nominated for an Oscar. Shah Rukh Khan was first approached for the lead role, which later went to Aamir Khan. Due to schedule problems, Shah Rukh couldn’t do the film.
3. Rang De Basanti
Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra had offered Shah Rukh the role of Ajay Rathore. But because of date clashes with another film, Shah Rukh had to say no. Later, Aamir Khan did the film.
4. Jodhaa Akbar
After ‘Lagaan’, Ashutosh Gowariker again thought of Shah Rukh for the role of Emperor Akbar. But Shah Rukh did not like the shooting location, so the role went to Hrithik Roshan. However, Shah Rukh had worked with Ashutosh earlier in ‘Swades’, but that film did not perform well.
5. Ek Tha Tiger
Yash Raj Films' spy thriller made Salman Khan a big hit again. But before Salman, the makers had approached Shah Rukh for the role of Tiger. Due to schedule issues, Shah Rukh could not accept the film.
6. 3 Idiots
Another Rajkumar Hirani film that was first offered to Shah Rukh Khan. But he suffered an injury and had to drop the project. Later, Aamir Khan did the film, and the rest is history.
7. Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai
Rakesh Roshan’s blockbuster film introduced Hrithik Roshan to stardom. But Shah Rukh Khan was the first choice for the film. For various reasons, he did not do the film, and it changed Hrithik’s career forever.
8. Slumdog Millionaire
This Oscar-winning film also wanted Shah Rukh Khan for the role of the game show host. But due to schedule conflicts, he turned it down. Anil Kapoor later played the role.
