India Celebrates 100th Birth Anniversary of Raj Kapoor

Three-day screening of 10 iconic films of the legendary filmmaker all over the country across 40 cities and 135 cinemas; grand red carpet event hosted by the Kapoor clan

Udaipur, December 14, 2024 - Today, marks the 100th birth anniversary of the greatest showman on earth, Raj Kapoor. A visionary filmmaker, legendary actor, a realist and futurist with romance in his core…. Raj Kapoor continues to inspire Indian films even today. Till this day, he is celebrated as the icon of the Indian film industry who produced gems like Barsaat, Awaara, Shree 420, Mera Naam Joker and Bobby. These are just a few of his films that are among scores of the movies this larger-than-life figure is remembered for.

To mark the 100th year of the showman, the Kapoor clan came together to host a grand red-carpet event at the PVR Infinity Mall in Andheri yesterday with several Bollywood stars gracing the occasion. The entire Kapoor khandaan was present to welcome the guests, including Randhir Kapoor, Neetu Singh Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Karishma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor with Saif Ali Khan.

Additionally, to celebrate the occasion, RK Films, Film Heritage Foundation and NFDC-National Film Archive of India have come together to organise a retrospective showcasing of 10 of his iconic film. They will screen across 40 cities and 135 cinemas all over India during the weekend. The event, “Raj Kapoor 100 – Celebrating the Centenary of the Greatest Showman," are being held at PVR-Inox and Cinepolis cinemas until tomorrow, December 15, 2024.

The films that will be screened are Aag (1948), Barsaat (1949), Awaara (1951), Shree 420 (1955) Jagte Raho (1956), Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai (1960), Sangam (1964), Mera Naam Joker  (1970), Bobby (1975) and Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1985).
