March 16, 2026: The film Battle of Galwan, starring Salman Khan, has now been renamed Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace. The movie is based on the 2020 Galwan Valley clash and is directed by Apoorva Lakhia. On Monday, March 16, the makers revealed the new title along with a powerful poster. In the poster, Salman Khan is seen looking from behind a blood-stained wooden log wrapped with a spiked chain.

Why the Title Was Changed

Many fans were confused about why the film’s title was suddenly changed. Director Apoorva Lakhia later explained the reason in an interview. He said the change was not made suddenly. From the beginning, the team had registered two titles: Battle of Galwan and Maatrubhumi.

Apoorva said that during the making of the film, the team realised that the story is not only about a battle. It is also about humanity, emotions, and the silent struggles that soldiers face.

A Title That Reflects the Film’s Emotion

According to the director, the title Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace shows the true emotion and sacrifice in the story. He said the name reflects the soul of the film and highlights the importance of humanity even during conflict. He also mentioned that there is a song in the movie with the same name, and the positive response to the song made the title feel more suitable.

The film is currently scheduled to release in theatres on April 17. However, some reports suggest that the release could be delayed to mid-August. If that happens, it may clash with the film Lahore 1947, starring Sunny Deol, which is expected to release on August 13, 2026 during the Independence Day weekend.

Along with Salman Khan, the movie also stars Chitrangda Singh, Abhilash Chaudhary and Ankur Bhatia in important roles.
