Dharmendra Breathes His Last: Bollywood Personalities Accompany Family to Pay Their Respects
Mumbai, Nov 24, 2025: Bollywood legend 'Dharmendra' Singh Deol, passed away peacefully at his residence in Mumbai in the afternoon on Monday, November 24, 2025. He was 89.
Dharmendra's demise marks the end of an era. With more than 300 films and countless memorable performances, Dharmendra shaped the golden years of Hindi cinema. The iconic on-screen Jai-Viru duo played by Amitabh and Dharmendra has been etched in the minds of every film lover in India and beyond. 'Viru' the beloved “He-Man” of Bollywood has entered eternal rest. In recent months, Dharmendra had been unwell due to age-related issues and was staying with his first wife, Prakash Kaur, showing slow signs of recovery.
Dharmendra had returned home from Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on November 12. Earlier, on November 10, his breathing problems had worsened, and the 89-year-old actor was rushed to the hospital. Doctors placed him on ventilator support. Dr. Professor Pratit Samdani treated him and later said, “The family has decided that his treatment will be done at home from now on.” A special medical board oversaw his treatment, and doctors monitored him closely at every moment. Despite all efforts, the veteran actor could not be saved.
Family and Celebrities Gather for Final Rites
On Monday afternoon, an ambulance was suddenly seen leaving Dharmendra’s house. Soon after, Hema Malini, Esha Deol, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol and Aamir Khan were seen at the Vile Parle crematorium. All of them wore white clothes. Soon, the news what everyone feared, was made official. Director Karan Johar confirmed the death of the legendary actor. His last rites were performed immediately. It is learnt that his eldest son, Sunny Deol, performed the cremation.
His Last Appearances and Health Concerns
Dharmendra was 89 years old. He was last seen in the film Teri Baato Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya. A few months ago, he also appeared in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, alongside Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi. Recently, a glimpse of his upcoming film Ikkis was also released.
Earlier this year, he underwent eye surgery. Fans became worried when a video of him leaving a Mumbai hospital went viral. In the video, Dharmendra told the paparazzi, “I am absolutely fine.”
He made his Bollywood debut with Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere in 1960 and went on to work in many memorable films. For decades, he captivated audiences with his acting and charm. The news of his death has cast a deep shadow of grief over the nation.
