A royal member of Udaipur`s Mewar, MK Vishvaraj Singh, has written a letter to PM Narendra Modi, Union Ministers and Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chief Prasoon Joshi amongst others requesting them to stop the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film, ‘Padmavati’.

Singh wrote, “You are requested not to certify or permit the release of the film in its present form,” Singh urged”. He further added that, “It is the responsibility of the Government to safeguard the history of our country and the dignity of its citizens”.

Singh objected that the film deals with his family and also forms a chapter of history of Mewar and still no one approached them to verify the facts or to solicit permission.

Singh further casts doubts on the veracity of historical facts portrayed in ‘Padmavati’ since it is based on Padmavat, an imaginary poetry that included thinking and talking parrots.

Singh was concerned about the effect that the movie would have on the future generation and the distorted view of history that they would carry from the movie. He finally said that misleading public and hurting sentiments of community is a crime under the constitution of India.

The movie is set to hit the theatres on December 1.
