Udaipur, Jan 16, 2026 - Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, Vir Das's directorial debut, was released in theatres on January 16, 2026. Produced by Aamir Khan, the film is a mix of comedy, action, romance and spy thriller, with a number of illogical moments.

Following the spy-comedy genre, the film does not offer anything particularly new or exciting. However, the story is not overly long. There were high expectations fromVir Das and Imran Khan's spy-comedy, but the story failed to impress. Owing to a weak plot and lackluster humour, the film did not meet expectations.

Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos – Story and Review

Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos revolves around Happy Patel (Das), a clumsy British spy who, during a failed mission in Goa, rescues a scientist from a criminal gang and discovers his Indian roots. Despite being a supposedly smart agent, Happy makes several blunders and faces cultural misunderstandings while trying to complete his mission, especially in the vibrant and chaotic environment of Goa.

The story develops as Happy falls in love with Rupa (Mithila Palkar), who has connections to the Goan gangster Mama (Mona Singh). However, Rupa’s true identity is revealed later. Happy is helped by Geet (Sharib Hashmi) and Roxy (Srishti Tawade), who become his friends. At the end, questions remain: Does Happy decide to settle in India? What happens to his two fathers? Do Happy and Rupa end up together? Watch the film to find out.

Cast Performances

Das plays Happy Patel with charm, humour and heroism. His comic timing stands out. Aamir Khan’s cameo is impactful, adding depth to the story. Imran makes a strong comeback after 11 years, handling his character with maturity and balance.

Hashmi brings humour and natural expressions to his role.  Palkar impresses with charm, intelligence and on-screen chemistry. Mona Singh’s role is less memorable, but Tawade’s energy and confidence make her performance stand out.

Direction

The direction by Kavi Shastri and Das is confident, fun and controlled. While the dialogues lack punch, most scenes are well-directed. However, the screenplay struggles to keep the magic alive from start to finish.

What Doesn’t Work

The story lacks fresh twists. Love and action appear abruptly. The comedy and action, which are key to the film, often fall flat. Many scenes are illogical or rely on clichés, which do not fit well with the story.

Verdict

Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos is a two-hour film that entertains in the first half but slows down in the second half. The later part includes higher stakes, surprising twists and a satisfying climax. The finale features a hilarious cooking battle that turns into a dancing fight, which is fun to watch.

However, the film is not suitable for viewers under 18 because of the frequent profanity and vulgar language. Das, playing an Englishman, misinterprets several Hindi words, which is distracting. Overall, Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos deserves 2 out of 5 stars.
