Rajpal Yadav to Release Ata Pata Laapata Clips Amid Rs 9 Crore Cheque Bounce Case
Actor Rajpal Yadav plans to release clips of Ata Pata Laapata to show how the money was spent, as he faces a Rs 9 crore cheque-bounce case.
March 01, 2026: Actor Rajpal Yadav has been granted interim bail by the Delhi High Court till March 18 in a Rs 9 crore cheque bounce case. He had surrendered before the court on February 5.
The case started in 2010 when Yadav took a loan of Rs 5 crore to produce and direct his film Ata Pata Laapata. The movie failed at the box office, which caused major financial losses. This later led to legal action against him.
Actor Says He Was Wrongly Accused
During a press conference in Mumbai, Yadav said businessman Madhav Gopal falsely involved him in the case. He stated that the issue is not about cheating or not repaying a loan. According to him, it is due to personal reasons and “bad intentions.”
Yadav said he has not sold the satellite rights of the film yet. He is also unsure whether he will release it on any OTT platform in the future.
To show that the money was properly used, he plans to release short clips from the film. He said the shooting lasted 76 days and involved real actors and large crowds at Film City. He added that no computer graphics were used to create fake crowds.
The actor shared that he spent around Rs 20–22 crore on the film. He arranged money by mortgaging his land and taking a bank loan. He claimed that the Rs 5 crore dispute put his entire investment at risk. He also said that nearly 200 artistes were part of the project.
When asked why he did not ask for help from the film industry, Yadav said he believes in standing on his own. He mentioned that he has stable support in his village, Shahjahanpur. He also said the film industry has supported him for over 25 years, and he sees it as his family.
