The strings of the sitar charmed the audience in the second session of the days program, when Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan began his performance with Raag Raageshwari.
Later, he introduced the various subtle elements of the Alaap, Jode, Jhala and Roopak Taal through his performances. Accompanying him on the tabla were Harshad Contractor and his American disciple Carlos Baan, who converted each of the performances into engrossing session of harmony and pleasure.
The day was dedicated to vocal classical music and the strings of the sitar.
Earlier towards evening, the moment Kumud Diwan, the renowned Classical singer recited the famous Banarasi Bandish, “Bansuri Ab na Bajao Shyam…”a loud applause from the audience greeted her. This recitation, orchestrated through the Thumri Raag Mishr, commenced the program for the day.
Micro elements of classical singing and classical music were appropriately presented through Kumud Diwans thumri based recitals of “rangili, rasili, chabili brij naar…”, “pritam yeh mat jaanio…”, “jaise jal bin machli tadhpat din rain…”.
