Udaipur, December 11, 2024 - Popular playback singer Sonu Nigam is miffed by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma leaving his show midway and has expressed his displeasure in a video posted on Instagram. The incident happened yesterday at Rambagh Palace, Jaipur, while the singer was performing at the opening of the Rising Rajasthan Investment Summit. The show was attended by CM Sharma and other important delegates.

The singer has claimed that the Chief Minister got up and left the show midway which prompted other dignitaries to follow suit. He said he received messages from many people criticising this.

 “It was a very prestigious event," said Nigam. "Delegates came from all over the world to enhance the pride of Rajasthan.” 

"But I later received many messages from people (on social media) asking me to not do shows like this anymore for politicians where they get up and leave midway," he said.

He added, “In the middle of the show, I saw that CM saab and the rest of the people got up and left. As soon as they left, all the delegates also left. I have a request to all politicians, if you do not respect your artistes, then what will the people outside do? In America or elsewhere, I’ve never seen a President leave midway during a performance. At least they would inform before leaving. My humble request to you all is that, if you have to leave like this, then do not come; or at least leave before the show starts.”

The singer has termed this behaviour an “insult” to Saraswati, the Goddess of music and arts.

"It is very rude to get up and leave in the middle of any artist's performance. This is an insult to (Goddess) Saraswati," he said.
