79 Newlywed Couples Took Oath against Female Feticide

In the mass wedding of Tailki Sahu Samaj and Mochi Samaj, 79 couples got married and then, in a special custom performed in wedding ceremony, all of them took an oath to stop female feticide.

In the mass wedding of Tailki Sahu Samaj and Mochi Samaj, 79 couples got married and then, in a special custom performed in wedding ceremony, all of them took an oath to stop female feticide.

The notable step, of saving girl child, was taken by the communities on the occasion of 23rd Mass Wedding Ceremony of Tailik Sahu and 12th of Mochi Samaj, organized by their respective committees at Townhall and Sub City Centre, Savina.

In Sahu Samaj, among the 48 couples which got married, no money was taken from 6 of the couples as their families are financially not as strong. Not only their wedding was conducted for free, but each couple was also presented with a Fixed Deposit Bond worth Rs. 25000 from community account.

Bhawar Lal Sahu, President, Tailik Sahu Samaj said, “We had made compulsory for our community members to marry in an Annual Mass Wedding, also it is second consecutive year in which couples are given oath to save girl child”.

Bhawar Lal added that in their community function, families from various parts of Rajasthan and India also participated making it a grand success. Motive behind mass wedding is minimising wastage of food and most importantly providing a common platform to all irrespective of their financial strength.
