The fourth Organ Donor Dash was held at Udaipur on 13 August, commemorating the noble act on World Organ Donation Day, which falls today. This dash, which has been the halmark of Organ Donation awareness in Udaipur over the last 6 years now, had taken an interim pause due to COVID lockdown during the last two years, but the spirit failed to subside.
The spirit of Organ Donation coupled with that of the 75th Independence Day celebration came together at Fatehsagar today morning at 7am, when the Dash was flaged off by Pritam Tamboli, CEO of Geetanjali Medical College and Hospital, who have been the pioneering medical insitutitions in Udaipur for this cause. The event was jointly organised by LakeCity Kidney Care and Relief Foundation, Bohra Youth Medical Relief Society, Scholar Foundation, Abha Eye Donation and Scholar Foundation.
Pritam Tamboli, in his address to the gathering at the Fatehsagar Paal, said that Geetanjali Hospital has been the pioneer in this cause and formalised and regulated organ donation process and transplant facilities have been set up at GMCH. The same will soon be available at the MB Hospital as well. Jitendra Singh Rathod, the founder of LakeCity Kidney Care, in his address and thanksgiving note to the gathering and participants said that this noble cause should be taken up by one and all on humanitarian grounds. He also added that people should be rid of myths surrounding this concept. Puneet Jain, Anees Miyaji, Kundan Bhatewara and Dr Sushma Arora were the other dignitaries who led the walk.
Udaipur's Shameem Hussain, now a resident of the United States of America and one of the initiators of the awareness cause in Udaipur and Southern Rajasthan, sent a recorded message to the gathering. In her message she said that it was 16 years back that she and her family and friends realised the importance of Organ donation, when her younger son received a new lease of life through an organ donation from an unknown person. Since then, she and her family and her friends have been stressing upon the value of this concept and it was was 6 years back that she initiated the movement in Udaipur with the help of like minded people and institutions such as LakeCity Kidney Care Foundation, Udaipur.
