Anand Patwardhan to Receive Asghar Ali Award in Udaipur on Dec 10
Renowned filmmaker Anand Patwardhan’s documentary Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam wins Best Documentary at NYIFF 2025
Udaipur, Dec 8, 2025 - Documentary film Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam/The World is Family by well-known filmmaker Anand Patwardhan has been awarded the Best Documentary film award at the New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF). The film presents the historical narrative of Patwardhan’s family showing how their history is deeply interwoven with the broader history of India.
Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam earlier won the Audience Award at Indie Meme, a south Asian festival in Austin, Texas.
Closer to home, the documentary filmmaker, who is known for his socio-political, human rights-oriented films, will be conferred the Dr Asghar Ali Engineer Lifetime Achievement Award at a ceremony in Udaipur on December 10, 2025. The award function will be followed by a special screening of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam at the venue, Maharana Kumbha Sangeet Sabhaghar.
The award is being given on behalf of the Central Board of Dawoodi Bohra Community, Bohra Youth Association, Dawoodi Bohra Jamaat, Udaipur, Institute of Islamic Studies and Centre for Study of Society and Secularism.
