Bohras mark the day of Ashura
The Dawoodi Bohra community has observed the day today with great respect and sentiments for Imam Hussain and his 72 followers who sacrificed their lives in the Battle of Karbala that was fought hundreds of years ago.
The 10th day of Moharram is also known as Ashura and has both religious and traditional significance in Islam. Moreover, the Shia Muslims throughout the world marks the day to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain.
The Dawoodi Bohra community has observed the day today with great respect and sentiments for Imam Hussain and his 72 followers who sacrificed their lives in the Battle of Karbala that was fought hundreds of years ago.
The death of Imam Hussain and its aftermath is remembered by Bohras in the form of self lamenting, performing matam and conducting condolence ceremonies.
Bohras of Udaipur organized a procession called Azadari. Several groups of men were seen walking beating their chests and chanting Ya Hussain! While women folks dressed in black as a sign of mourning stand on roadside. The Azadari was organized by Bohra Youth Association. The other sects of Bohras conducted waaz at Moiyadpura Masjid till evening which followed by prayers.
Bohras of both youth and shabab sects kept their business closed today and also observed fast.
