The Chhadi procession was carried out on the occasion of Moharram today. 16 Chhadis from different areas of the city were gathered at Hathipol and the procession concluded at Chetak’s Badi Paltan Masjid.

The annual ritual of Chhadi is carried out on 7^th Day of the Islamic Month of Moharram. The ritual has close link with the local tradition and is conducted with great passion and devotion by the Muslim community of Udaipur.

Processions were started since morning as group of people from their respective areas took the Chhadi and marched towards Hathipol.

Areas of Ali Pura, Dholi Bawdi, Payda, Kunjarwadi, Jatwadi, Silawatwadi, Barkat Colony, Raza Colony, Savina, Anjuman etc took the procession of Chhadi.

Chhadi symbolizes the flag of Islam which has special significance with the martyrdom of Imam Hussain at the Battle of Karbala, 1400 years ago. The Chhadi procession commemorates the sacrifice of Imam Hussain and his 72 companions.
