Today on 10th Muharram as per the Dawoodi Bohra Calendar, a day of Ashura was commemorated with a procession where hundreds of Dawoodi Bohra(youth) shias wearing black clothes and beating their chests in grief, marched from Moidpura Mosque started from 2:30 and ended by 5:00 in the evening at to Wazirpura Mosque in Boharwadi.

Their words have moved the hearts of onlookers too when groups in procession known as azadars were Reciting (in a poetic form) the story and aftermath of Battle of Karbala fought between Imam Hussain and yazid’s army in 7th century.

Women with their soaked eyes were standing on road side while children chanting Ya Hussain!! were holding proudly Alam- the Islamic flag. Bohras also keeps fast today.

The day of Ashura is accredited as one of the most sacred day for Muslims all over the world despite of their religious indifference. Rest of the Muslim community of Udaipur will commemorate Ashura on 17th followed by the procession of Taziya.
