A 2-day International Conference on Emerging Challenges of Sanitation Workers in Urbanized Societies was organized at MLSU’s Department of Sociology today.
A 2-day International Conference on Emerging Challenges of Sanitation Workers in Urbanized Societies was organized at MLSU’s Department of Sociology today.
Speakers of the conference emphasized on various measures to connect sweepers to the main stream society. Keynote speaker Prof. C.L Sharma said, “Despite education being well promoted among sanitation workers of city, self employment is still lacking.”
He added, “Although, the social bigotries like discriminating someone due to his caste or work is an offence but inside somewhere, this discrimination is still present and those who are powerful, exploit the poor.”
Likewise many other speakers and guests shared their thoughts among the audience. Arun Chouhan, special guest of the conference said that the problems of sanitation workers is more observable in city than in rural areas.
“Arrangement made in ancient times are responsible for the exploitation of today’s sanitation workers” said Gopal Kotia, president of Ambedkar Vikas Samiti.
Prof. Sharad Shrivastava, dean College of Social Science and Humanities, also put forward his views on the subject.
