Shilpgram Fest: Cultural Grandeur Wins Hearts of Global Visitors
Foreign tourists admire folk dances, crafts and cultural vibrancy at WZCC’s Shilpgram Festival; Day 8 sees impressive Ghoomar performance
Udaipur, Dec 29, 2025 - Foreign tourists visiting the Shilpgram Festival organised by the West Zone Cultural Centre (WZCC), Udaipur, have been truly impressed by its organisation and management.
On Sunday (December 28), three young women from California, US - Jerish, Sering and April - were seen exploring the stalls and enjoying themselves. Initially, they thought Shilpgram was a real village but were surprised when told the entire area had been modelled to look like a traditional village.
The three friends visited all the stalls, observed the handcrafted products displayed by artisans, and interacted with them to understand the process of making these items.

Meanwhile, Day 8 of the festival had visitors spellbound with the Ghoomar performance, an integral part of Rajasthan’s folk culture. Dancers in colourful ghagras on the Muktaakashi Stage impressed with their skill and grace.
Ghoomar, is closely associated with the renowned Bani-Thani painting style of Kishangarh (Rajasthan), and is celebrated worldwide for its beauty and artistic excellence. The Bani-Thani style flourished during the reign of Maharaja Sawant Singh (Nagari Das).
Alongside this performance, Rajasthan’s unique Terah Taali folk dance drew immense applause as the dancers created rhythmic beats using nine manjiras tied to their feet and two each on their elbows and hands. This dance belongs exclusively to the Kamad community.
Performances from across India further enthralled the audience. West Bengal’s Raibenshe, Maharashtra’s Lavani, Rajasthan’s Kalbelia dance, West Bengal’s Purulia Chhau and the electrifying Siddhi Dhamal performance left spectators awestruck.

Additionally, December 28 witnessed folk artists from the Mewat region with their soulful Bhapang performances. Other attractions included Uttarakhand’s Chhapeli folk dance, Assam’s Bihu, Manipur’s Thang-Ta, Punjab’s Bhangra, Singhi Chham, Karn Dhol and Braj’s Mayur Dance.
The programme was anchored by Dr Mohita Dixit and Madhuri Sharma.

The Hivda Ri Hook programme with coordinator Saurabh Bhatt on the Banjara Stage continued to attract visitors of all age groups. From 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, performances across various ‘Thadas’ within Shilpgram offered non-stop entertainment while Bahurupiyas roaming the premises entertained visitors with their costumes and acting.
