Hundreds and thousands of Hindu devotees worshipped their one of the supreme gods Shiva on the day of Mahashivratri. From a day before till the late evening Shiva temples in the Udaipur city were charged with overflowing crowd of devotees.

Especially the 8th century Shiva temple located at Kailashpuri 22kms from Udaipur known as Eklingji was centre of worship. Many devotees walked through the temple from Udaipur and nearby towns to pay their homage by reaching there before dawn.Devotees Gathered in Eklingji on Mahashivratri

People started their journey on foot to Eklingji late in night from yesterday and reached the temple early in morning. On the way to Eklingji various organizations had put-up several stalls for providing refreshment and rest to the visitors. Music systems playing devotional songs made the devotees dance to the beat. 22kms. long journey was completed comfortably.

Since early morning the string of religious traditions including maha aarti, puja and bathing the idol started, thousands of hindu devotees gathered in the temple premises where management were already prepared to handle the crowd by dividing them into various queues made by different barricades.

For the return of visitors and devotees more than 20 buses were arranged by the Roadways and other private bus operators.

Around 12:00pm a tradition of bejeweling the idols began by the temple authority in very tight security. Many political leaders were also present in the temple.
