Extravaganza of Shilpgram Utsav to Begin from 21st Dec

The annual fest of ‘Shilpgram Utsav-2012’ is just 2 days away, to showcase the rainbow culture of India at Udaipur; around 600 folks and 500 artisans will present some of the rarest art of country; inauguration of which will be carried out by Governor of Rajasthan, Margret Alva.

The long awaited event for the culture lovers of our city is going to break its silence on the 21st of December, as the date will mark the beginning of colourful presentation of folk culture in form of dances, along with the first time ever attraction of Sand Art and Krishna Leela by a South African group.

In the special performance of the year, a South African group will present ‘Krishna Leela’ in the form of Bharatnatyam dance, directed by Veruka Pather on 26th December; the performance has been coordinated with the efforts of Indian Cultural Relation Council, New Delhi.

Other special events in the 10-day fair will include, Sand Art from Subal Maharana of Odisha, ‘Ventriloquists’ of Shri Kanth Sathe from Maharashtra and Folk Songs from Basanti Devi Bisht of Uttrakhand.

While in the routine of the fest for the whole 10 days, member States, including Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Assam, Punjab, Uttaranchal, Madhya Pradesh, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh and Kerala will present their local dances at ‘Kala-Angan’ from 6 pm onwards.

Around 500 artists from various parts of country will showcase their art work in their respective outlets/cottages, at the fair from 21st till 30th December at Shilpgram.

Shilpgram Utsav, the annual fest is a vibrant platform for the promotion of Local and Village Art, which also provides a broad market to the artists, while on the other hand re-introduces extinguishing art work among the masses.
