A day exclusively dedicated to spiritual and academic teachers commonly known as Guru in India was celebrated today as
Guru Purnima by offering respect and tributes to the gurus belonging to different Indian communities.
Udaipur, a city closely attached with distinctive Indian traditions and customs celebrated the revered day with utmost piousness.Various famous temples and matths of the city were visited by thousands of devotees to honor their spiritual gurus and deities. A few schools of Udaipur also organized special events to pass out the message of having respect for their teachers to the students. Hindus from different sects and gotras having a firm belief in their ancestral sacred gurus offered prayers and made various special arrangements for the day. Highly acclaimed gurus of different temples and dhams were visited by their disciples in large numbers, the devotees offered flowers, sweets, aarti and prasads to their gurus. Guru Purnima is celebrated to offer gratitude to a guru by their followers for showing them the right path for success in both their spiritual and worldly life. According to the Hindu calendar, the day comes in the month of Aashad (July-August) on the night of full moon and it is believed that Ved Vyas (considered as the most respectable Indian guru) had completed four Vedas on this day. The period of Chatur-Maas(four months)also starts from this day and these four months are considered as the holiest months according to the Jain ideology.
National saint of Jain community, Muni Shree Tarun Sagar ji Maharaj is in the city from last few days, his sermons which have commenced at the BN College ground is bieng attended by thousands of followers every day. Today on the occasion of Guru Purnima ,a large numbers of followers gathered to listen to the famed ‘Kadve Pravachan’ by Muni Shree Tarun Sagar. In Evening, there was a question-answer session conducted by Muni Shree, where he listened to the queries of his followers and answered it.
Mahant Suresh Giri Maharaj of Niranjan Akhada,one of the highly respected gurus of Udaipur, also blessed his followers at the Balaji Hanuman Mandir, located at Suraj pol.
Another famous Hindu temple, Asthal Mandir was also among one of the most visited holy places on this day. Pandit Raas Bihari was there to bless and guide the devotees that visited the temple.
