Her Excellency Governor of Gujarat, Dr. Kamla Beniwal, inaugurated Panache '12 officially addressing the students of Sir Padampat Singhania University.

In her speech, Her Excellency mentioned, “Education, in the truest sense of the term, is a process of self-discovery. It is the art of self-sculpture. It trains the individual not so much in specific skills or in specific branch of knowledge, but in the flowering of his or her latent intellectual, artistic and humanist capacities.”

She also commented on improving quality of Girls’ education, “The history of girl education in this country has not been very encouraging, but the recent indications have much to smile about. If the past belonged to the men, then present definitely belongs to the womenfolk. Both are like the roots and trunk of a tree.

As per the schedule of Day 1, Panache ’12 saw Sir Padampat Singhania University Debate Competition being held with 9 participating teams with two teams from Patiala, Rajasthan. The topic of the Debate being,”Are Social Networking Sites doing us any good or are they just a sophisticated way of stalking people?”

Slate: Creative Writing Competition, the topics were distributed among the participants who were then given 30 minutes to think and an hour to incorporate it on papers provided.

A seven hours Conference on VLSI and Embedded Systems. A Classical Dance Performance by Rajesh Sharma and Group and a play ‘Ekla Chalo Re’ performed by ‘The Performers’ written by Dr Laique Hussain and directed by Anukampa Laique, based on the biography of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.

The most loved Food Fair consisted of three counters, ‘Happinezz’, ‘Chef’s Venture Fast-food Joint’ and The University Canteen. The revenue generated by the food fair will be donated to the schools in the nearby villages intended to improve their education facilities. The day ends with Gangs of Ghetto: Street Dance Competition.
