Continuing with the centuries old tradition, Holika Ropan was done at Manak Chowk in the City Palace premises today, almost a month before the festival of Holi.

On the auspicious day of Magh Shukla Poornima, several yagya and religious customs were conducted by Shri Dharmsabha, which is run by Shri Eklingji Trust. Thereafter, Holika was installed at 5 in the evening by Purohit Karmantri.

This starts the countdown to the amazing festival of colors which is on 27th March.

Holika, according to the Hindu mythology, is the famous aunt of Prehlad, the devotee of Lord Vishnu. Holika had the power that she could not be burnt in fire.

So, on the orders of Prahlad’s father, who considered himself bigger than the god did not like Prahlad’s unflinching devotion towards Vishnu, she sat on fire with Prehlad with an intention to burn the kid. But, she ends up burning herself while his nephew was saved with the spiritual power of Lord Vishnu.
