While most of us are busy lusting of selfish desires and cozy luxurious gateways, there are some unfortunate lives too who don’t need any five figured salary, a latest modeled SUV, 4 BHK Duplex bungalow or large sum of money but some units of blood in every 25-30 days till one day death will come to take them to eternity, to God.
Thalassemia is one of the most dangerous genetic infirmities in which a defective production of hemoglobin causes the need of regular blood transfusion. This disease is diagnosed in the first 6 months of life and once detected there is no option for the baby but to put him on blood transfusion for the entire life. Because of repeated transfusion, all iron present in the blood starts getting accumulated in liver, spleen, kidneys and pancreas and the child by the age of 10-13 will die of complications.

Around 15-20 children in Udaipur city and almost 125 children in the whole Mewar district are on this painful journey of life, they have no options except counting every single day, bearing all those pains of pinching needles, seeing their own life ending in front of their helpless parents. Still, if you think that a hug or smile can create wonders for them then you are most welcome to meet and greet these ailing children on World Thalassemia Day 2011 on 8
th of May. With a profound and selfless thought, DISHA Hospital (branch of The Raven Charitable Trust) and some responsible citizens of Udaipur took the initiative to help these children and their parents on world Thalassemia day.
