The Retro-Carnival at the Celebration Mall, Udaipur is living up to the expectations in bringing memories of the 1970’s and 1980’s the Bollywood way. The Mall management has added many attractions, which will take you back to the era of the mid 80’s. One among these eye catching things is a Sketch Artist.

Amit Kumar, a 35-year-old Jamshedpur born Fine Arts degree holder is the person behind this skill, which has been his passion since Class 10th. Sitting in the midst of all activity happening in the Celebration Mall Retro-Carnival, this young man is bringing out his passion on paper, much to the appreciation of the live audience who see him performing his fine art.

One might take to be a regular deal, as there are a plethora of Computer applications that can do this, but what is different here, is that it is being done by the human hand and live in front of you. Amazingly, the average time taken to come up with a flawless pencil sketch is a mere 15 minutes. He has sketched over 50 portraits in the Celebration Mall Carnival.

Amit Kumar who has been in Udaipur since the last 12 years after working in Delhi for a while says, “I was very passionate about sketching since a very early age. In the 6th Class, I made a sketch of my Science teacher who eventually appreciated me after pocketing the sketch. When my Science results came out, I had flinked, but my teacher came to me and said – Amit, you flunked the examination but since you made such a beautiful sketch, I am passing you with grace marks”.

He further adds that he received a punch of inspiration in his 10th class when he saw an unknown artist filling colors and making live sketches. That was the beginning of his interest in the field, which gradually led on to become a profession. His favorite artist is Salvador Dali.

“Technology has deeply affected Art in many aspects, which resulted in the downward trend of the field of Fine Art as a whole. Art, over time, has evolved to become a TechnoArt”, says Amit Kumar.
