The inaugural ceremony of two-day International conference on ‘Perspectives in Culture, Society and Gender in Subaltern Communities in south Asia’ took place today at 11:30 am in Mohan Lal Sukhadia University Auditorium. This conference is organized by the Department of Sociology, University College of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Chief Guest on the occasion, Prof. Teus J. Kamphorst from Utrecht University Netherlands, inaugurated the conference by lighting up the lamp accompanied by I.V. Trivedi, Vice Chancellor MLSU.

Professor I.P. Modi, President, Indian Sociological Society, was the key note speaker in the event.

Prof. Kamphorst, while addressing the conference said, “Dalits and marginalized people are like Mass Media, only 60 to 65 % of them, who are either powerful or who walk along the powerful, get a better coverage. The remaining people are like the brief news.”

A total of around 200 professors are expected to participate in the conference out of which 5 professors will be coming from abroad.
