The Pandit Chatur Lal Memorial Society, New Delhi and Vedanta, HZL will be collaborating to organize an event – ‘Smritiyan’ on 16^th Nov at Shilpgram in remembrance of the prominent Tabla player Pt. Chatur Lal. Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia and Pt. Deepak Maharaj will be performing in the event, making it even more significant.

Pt. Charanjit, son of Pt. Chatur Lall informed that, the event will be organized on Muktakashi Manch, Shilpgram, where the flute maestro pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia and worldly appreciated Kathak dancer, Pt. Deepak Maharaj  will perform. The event will also witness performances by Pt. Ajay Pohankar, BandhuGhulamSabir and GhulamVaris Sufi.

He also informed that, in the event itself, Pt. Chaurasia will be awarded the ‘Pt. Chatur Lal Excellence Award’.

“Pt. Chatur Lal was born on 16^th April, 1926 in Udaipur. He completed his education and grew up in Udaipur City. He was the first Tabla player to tour Europe and America along with Pt. Ravi Shankar and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. Even, he was the first one who got his LP records including ‘Fire on Drums’ and ‘Drums of India’ titled by Pacific Records, Hollywood in 1955.”, as informed by Pt. Charanjit.

Pt. Chatur Lal also gave music in a Canadian movie ‘Cherry Tale’ along with Pt. Ravi Shankar, which was nominated for Oscars. He was also co-created the first East-West fusion with Philip Joe, Drummer in 1957, which is still preserved in the Library of Congress, USA.

In year 2011, on the 85^th anniversary of Pt. Chatur Lal, Charanjit re-started an event titled – ‘Smritiyan’ in his remembrance. Till date, the ‘Pt. Chatur Lal Excellence Aaward’ is awarded to icons including UstadAmjad Ali Khan, Pt. Raajan-SaajanMishra, Pt. BirjuMaharaj and Sitara Devi.

This year’s event is also supported by Rajasthan Tourism, RSMM and Jalsa Hotel.
