Music Resonates in Every Part of Rajasthan: Governor
Governor Haribhau Bagde presented the Rs 1 lakh Milap Kothari Award of Sur Sangam to Hulash Purohit and honoured Deepak Pandit with the Sur Sangam Gaurav Samman
UdaipurTimes, Oct 3, 2026 - Music enhances an individual’s creative energy and is deeply rooted in every part of Rajasthan, said Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde while addressing a gathering at the 37th national function of Sur Sangam in Jaipur on Friday, October 2.
Indian music originated from the Samaveda and it not only entertains the mind but also fills life with joy, enthusiasm and energy, the Governor observed. He recalled the efforts of the late KC Malu in taking Rajasthan’s distinctive folk and classical music to audiences across the world and paid tribute to his memory. He also spoke of the contributions of the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana, Pandit Ram Narayan and Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, among others, and said these artists had brought pride to Rajasthan through their contribution to music.
Referring to the story of Pandit Omkarnath Thakur helping Italian dictator Benito Mussolini overcome insomnia through his singing, he said Indian music is closely connected with the knowledge of meditation. The Governor also mentioned the bhajan Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram, set to music by Pandit Vishnu Digambar Paluskar, and said it was originally written by Pandit Lakshmanacharya in a work titled Shri Namah Ramayanam.
Earlier, Governor Bagde presented the Rs 1 lakh Milap Kothari Award of Sur Sangam to Hulash Purohit and honoured Deepak Pandit with the Sur Sangam Gaurav Samman. He also presented certificates and mementos to musician Deepak Mathur and participants selected from 10 States for the Sur Sangam competition.
Sur Sangam head Hemjeet Malu and Dr Devdutt Sharma, editor of the Swar Sarita magazine, presented the KC Malu Memorial Special Issue to the Governor.
