The fourth day of Shilpgram Utsav 2014 geared up with the shoppers buying artistic material, woolen clothes, Mrin Kunj, brass pieces and home decor etc. While women emptied their pockets shopping, men were not far behind.

The fourth day of Shilpgram Utsav 2014 geared up with the shoppers buying artistic material, woolen clothes, Mrin Kunj, brass pieces and home decor etc. While women emptied their pockets shopping, men were not far behind.

The Handloom Development Board, Handicraft Development Board and Jute Development Board of New Delhi showcased their excellent artistic work in form of apparels and accessories. The people were wooed by patchwork clothes, embroidered bed sheets, cotton carpet, beaded and semi precious jewelry, decorative flower pot, Meenakari studded pitcher and glass set, gramophone, bells etc.

In the Haat Bazar near Vareli Hut, cane bamboo, horns of Yak, jute and woolen clothes were the show stoppers along with the Gair dance by the local Rajasthani tribes. For the first time, through TRIFED, artists from Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura etc. displayed chairs made of canes, baskets, lamp shades, human faces, flowers and much more.

Suresh Chandra Das, an artist from Tripura used cane and bamboo and made intricate earrings, hair clips, rings and other pieces of jewelry selling at a price starting from Rs. 10 to Rs. 100 only.

The evening of the Utsav commenced with the reverberating melody of the Mand Song- Kesariya Balam sung by Lakshman Bhaand of Mehta Road. After this, the Khupilili dance depicted the culture of North East.

The pyramid dance called Vasava Holi of Gujarat followed by Bordoi dance of Assam added glory to the evening. With public demand, ‘Nrutya Rupa’ was performed again on the stage that emoted the gestures of Kathakali, nuances of dance and emotions through Odissi and Bharatnatyam, the rhythm of feet in Kathak and artistic moves of Manipuri dance.

Chapeli Dance of Uttarakhand spread its grandeur among the audience while the Baul song left everyone in the state of trance. The hide-n-seek of Radha Krishna and his Gopi was enacted in Mayur Dance that captivated all present there.

On the fifth day, i.e. today, artists from 8 North Eastern states will be displaying the tribal dance forms and Kerala artist will hold a jamming session using Bamboo instruments. Also, from 3 pm onward, a photography workshop will be organized by Photography Friends Club at Sam Hut, Shilpgram.
