The Christian community of Udaipur celebrated Palm Sunday at Shepherd Memorial Church today. On the occasion, special prayers were organised and verses of Holy Bible were read in the church by Rev. Prem Prakash Peter from Mount Abu.

According to Rev. Rameson Viktor, Head Priest at Shepherd Memorial, it is believed that Lord Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem on this very day; and it marks the beginning of the holy week.

“People observe a day long Fast on Palm Sunday”, added Rev. Viktor.

In some churches around the world, the day is marked by distributing palm leaves (tied into a Cross).  It is also believed that after his entry into Jerusalem, Jesus had to bear harsh sufferings and was later crucified, but three days after crucifixion, Jesus resurrected.  The day of resurrection is celebrated as ‘Easter’ among the Christian Community.
