The annual fair of Hariyali Amavas started today in Udaipur. Characteristically,the excited crowd was seen enjoying the monsoon season with the Aravali mountain range covered with lush green carpet adding grace and flavor to their enjoyment.

Hariyali Amavas (hariyali stands for greenery and amavas means a moonless night) is marked as the arrival of monsoon in different parts of India, although the fair on this occasion is specifically observed only in Udaipur, Rajasthan.

Population from both urban and rural areas gathered to enjoy this colorful fair that took place on the shore of Lake Fatehsagar and at the world famous Saheliyon Ki Bari.

Craftsmen, performers, artists and vendors of various entertaining and household stuffs put up their stalls on both sides of road; and the people did not missede the chance to buy these items,as it is also the best time to buy some distinctive stuffs which are usually unavailable in local market.

Many people were seen relishing Malpuas along with Rabdi, which is another distinct sweet food prepared on this occasion; in view of some people who attend this fair every year “this fest remains quite incomplete without having malpua –rabdi”.

Seeing the growing number of people attending Hariyali Amavas fair every year, special arrangements to control the situation and maintain law and order were made by the Udaipur district authorities.
