Janmashtami was celebrated in a thrilling atmosphere at Jagdish Chowk where a traditional event of matki fod/dahi handi was held today evening by Dharmotsav Samiti.

Various groups of young men attempted to break the clay pot hanging 20 feet above the ground by making human pyramids. The crowd was cheering and chanting, admiring Lord Krishna’s characteristic habit of stealing makhan.

At last after multiple attempts Gadia Devra group successfully reached the pot and won the prize of Rs.15000/by Pacific College plus Rs.21000 by Beena Verdia the Late. Lt.Archit Verdia’s mother.

The prolonged celebration started early this evening with various cultural functions including dances, songs etc. Anna Hazare and Jan Lokpal Bill was also found ruling here too. Not only locals but foreign tourists were also seen laden with color of Anna.

Prince Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar was the chief guest of the programme and many other dignitaries were also present in the celebration to commemorate the birth day of Lord Krishna.

Since early this morning, various religious and social programmes were organized on the occasion of Janmashtami.

City’s Asthal Mandir was crowded with thousands of devotees who came to offer their prayers to Lord Krishna and to admire various tableaus.

Many other events also took place in the various parts of the city.

A social event that comprises of small pooja followed by lunch was organized by Devilal Salvi and Rajendra Rao at Lord Shiva’s Temple behind University Guest House at Durga Nursery Road today afternoon.

Both Devilal and Rajendra have been organizing this event from past 5 years. After conducting prayers they offered flowers and food in the form of Prasad to Lord Krishna’s idol.
