As was the farewell to ‘Samvat 2068’, so was the welcome to the first morning of ‘Vikram Samvat 2069’ by the students of Alok School who flocked in various areas of the city to wish everyone on the auspicious occasion by putting tilak on their forehead and giving them neem leaves with black pepper and sugar cubes (mishri).

In the evening, the extravaganza started at Dudh Talai adjoining Pichola with another round of tremendous fire work show amid the highly bejeweled area around the pond of Dudh Talai.

Hundreds of people witnessed the ideally organized program by, Nagar Parishad and Alok Institute.

According to Dr. Pradeep Kumwat, 5000 students have participated in New Year wishing ceremony in the morning and before the groups dispersed for wishing the people special prayers were observed at Jagdish Temple.

The day of Vikram Samvat (Nav Samavatsar) is believed to be the center point of many historical events that occurred on this date to name a few are the coronation of Rama, beginning of Navratri fast, Beginning of Yudhishtar Samvat, foundation of Arya Samaj etc.

It is also strongly believed in Hinduism that Brahma has made the earth on this day. The day is celebrated all over India in various forms and activities.
