With a series of celebrations including cultural and social events going on in the region, the devotion of the Jain community reached its peak today on the auspicious occasion of Mahavir Jayanti, the birthday of Lord Mahavir, the last of the Tirthankaras.

A colorful procession “Shobha Yatra” was organized under the management and direction of Mahavir Jain Parishad. The procession, laden with beautifully decorated horses and carts, musical bands, etc. started at 8 am today from Oswal Bhavan and passed through the walled city areas of Mukherjee Chowk, Sindhi Bazar, Mochiwada, Bhadbhuja Ghati, Mandi ki Nal, Delhi Gate, Bapubazar, Surajpol on the way to its culmination at Fateh School grounds.
Leading the Shobha Yatra, Rajat and Chinmay Nalwaya were on roller skates, while students of Mahavir Vidya Mandir, Digambar Jain Girls School, Shree Jain Agarwal Bal Mandir and Parshwnath Vidya Mandir were holding banners displaying social and environment relevant messages.
Of the many bands providing live music to the procession, the 51 member Shree Jain Niti Navyuvak Band, which was founded in 1936 was being led by Neeraj Singhvi.
A large number of Jain community members were preaching and spreading the message of Lord Mahavir which revolves around peace and integrity among all living beings.
