Udaipur, February 24, 2025 - Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL), in collaboration with BAIF, organised a rally and exhibition of high-quality breed calves in Malikheda under its flagship programme, Samadhan Project. This project is aimed at enhancing the annual income of local farmers in surrounding villages through livestock development. The event was attended by Balwant Singh Rathore, CEO of Rajpura Dariba Complex IBU.

In this exhibition of high-quality calves, Nodal Officer of the Animal Husbandry Department Dr Nanalal Regar and LEO Lakshmilal Regar provided farmers with information about various schemes and activities related to advanced animal husbandry. They shared knowledge on deworming, vaccination, timely artificial insemination (AI), proper maintenance, nutrition, common diseases in animals and their prevention.

Around 40 farmers, including women, from nearby villages participated in the event with their high-quality breed calves. A main attraction of the rally was the evaluation of 20 high-quality calves from premium breeds like Gir, Sahiwal, Holstein Friesian as well as Murrah buffaloes through AI. The top three calves were awarded special prizes based on their growth, health and overall quality. All farmers were also honoured with prizes.

HZL has been regularly implementing the improvement of cattle breeds through AI in the villages surrounding the Rajpura Dariba area. Farmers have benefitted from the breed improvement of calves such as Gir, Murrah, Jersey and Holstein as well as goats. Through the centre, AI, animal health camps, deworming, vaccination, training, green fodder and mineral mixture activities are conducted.

Farmers shared their experiences of the Samadhan Project, highlighting the improvement in livestock quality through AI. They emphasised the increase in milk production, which has positively impacted their earnings and contributed to the national agenda by doubling their income.

For the past 10 years, the Samadhan Project has been empowering farmers in 36 villages of the Railmagra block, contributing to agricultural and livestock development. Under this initiative, a total of 8,491 AI have been carried out, resulting in the birth of 2,516 animals. In the last three years, the initiative has also promoted Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) with 1,800 farmers.
