Regulators tighten strings on illegal mining | Star Rating for Legal Work

A day long session on “Responsible – Our Commitment to our Nation” was held at the local chapter of the Institution of Engineers. This event, organized under the joint cooperation of Mining Engineers Association of India, Rajasthan Chapter and The Institution of Engineers, was in sync with Indian Mining Day, which is celebrated today.
Dr. SS Rathore, President of the Mining Engineers Association, spoke about the importance of Mining and Mining based industries in the economic development of India. While addressing the guests in his inaugural speech. , he also threw light on the Statistical numbers relevant to environment vis-a-vis Mining.
Earlier in the program, President of Institution of Engineers (India), Er. MK Mathur welcomed the participants and updated them as to the activities of the IEI, Udaipur Chapter.
Key Note speaker at the event, Pushpendra Gaur, Deputy Controller of Mines, Indian Bureau of Mines, Udaipur threw light on the illegal mining activities in the region and how the government is looking at monitor illegal activity using remote sensing satellite tools and putting to task the culprits. He further informed, that to promote regulated and legal mining activities, the government is also considering awarding Star Ratings to producers.
Over 50 people participated in the program.
