Words & Slogans like the above ones were reverberating in the City of Lakes-Udaipur on 21st April at 6pm, an evening prior to the World Earth Day. Earth day was celebrated in Udaipur at Gangaur Ghat by Alok Sansthan, Alok Interact Club, Aravali Lake and Environment federation, Bharat Vikas Parishad Mewar and Rotary Club of Udaipur.
The main guests were Dr. Ramgopal (ex-Director General, Defense Research Department.), Shyam lal Kumawat (Chairman of Alok Sansthan.) and chief guests included, L.S. Karnawat(President of Rotary Club Udaipur), B.L Mehta (Secretary of Rotary Club Udaipur) and S.K. Verma(National Secretary of Bharat Vikas Parishad) & N.C. Jain (Chief Conservator Officer of Forest Wildlife).
The program begun by the approval of Pradeep Kumawat (Administrator of Alok Sansthan). Heritage walk was organized in the city by students of Alok Sansthan & Alok club interact. This consciousness rally had all students holding boards of slogans to save the Earth & water. There was an attempt for the mass appeal to spread the message of “Save the Earth.”
After the rally reached Gangaur Ghat, the event was inaugurated by placing all five symbolic elements of Earth, Water, Fire, Wind & Sky with the soil of Haldighati in a pot.
Messages like saving water, reducing pollution and use of Polythene. Proper use of stored water from rain for irrigation, rain water harvesting, proper use of electricity, safety of lakes and plantation were the major spotlight of the program.
The broadcast of 3 important films “kal kal chal chal behti” with “Earth Song” of Michael Jackson made it an awe-inspiringly thought provoking event. “Save Planet Earth” named movie, which is directed by Pradeep Kumawat, were insightful trials to reignite the love for the Earth & Environment in general mass.
Poster competition also did its bit to support the Earth Day celebration. Students prepared outstanding posters to encourage people.
First prize was bagged by Himanshu Kalra, followed by Ayushi Purohit (2nd in poster competition) and Nishal Soni got 3rd prize in poster competition.
A dance performance was given by Vibhangi Aameta & “Swapna me dharti maa ne kaha” was performed by Ujjwal Nagda.
“The performance of play about the Earth was a real achievement of Alok Sansthan. This is the high time we should save the Earth, otherwise it would turn out disastrous.” Dr Ramgopal uttered.
“We call the Earth our mother, so we should take care of it in the same way we do for our mother. We are forgetting that pollution is deteriorating the natural environment of Earth. Joint steps are needed to make it green & clean again.” Shyam lal Kumawat explained to the public.
In the end, earthen lamps were floated by Alok Sansthan’s students to make the event more serene.
