A sculpture workshop is going on in Shilpgram, the rural art and craft centre. Various sculptors from 11 states are busy carving beautiful structures from waste wood and stone.

West Zone Cultural Centre (WZCC) has organised a sculpture workshop in Shilpgram which will go on until 30^th July. Sculptors from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Telangana, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Bihar are in Udaipur putting in their efforts to make beautiful items from waste stone and wood since Wednesday.

Director of WZCC Furqan Khan informed that all structures will be theme based. Each artist has been given a different theme. All wooden structures will be based on Yoga theme whereas stone structures will be based on traditional cookware. Structures based on Yoga theme will impart messages of health, while those made from stones will highlight ancient Indian culture and resources. In 12 days of workshop, more than 20 structures will be made.

Presently Shilpgram has 28 structures which add to the beauty of this rural art and craft centre. All of these structures have been made by all these artists attending the workshop. There is a possibility that by 30^th July, 20 more structures will be ready. These will then be placed near main gate, near the huts and at all those spots where tourists tend to spend more time with families in Shilpgram.

The point here is that all ancient Indian culture sculptures are being recreated in a new and innovative way so as to become self explanatory for the younger generation. These sculptures will give a new dimension to Shilpgram.

Ravindra Jamwal, Vishambhar Mehta, Prem Kumar from Jammu, Jayant Nayak from Gujarat, Snehlata Prasad from Sanikpuri, Rajvendra Kumar from Fajilka, Mahaveer Bharti and Neeraj from Jaipur, Pradeep Kumar from Haryana are creating stone sculptures. Rakesh Rana and Kanu from Ahmedabad, Vijay Singh Chauhan from Chhattisgarh, Baljeet Singh from Fajilka, Devidas Khatri from Delhi, Gajanan P paratkar from Amravati, Renubala from Punjab, Akash Bhoya from Vadodara and Mamta Kesri from Patna are working on both stone and wooden structures.
