Fourth edition of film festival by Udaipur Film Society of Cinema of Resistance kicked off at the Vidhya Bhawan auditorium today. The festival is slated to run from 14-16 October 2016.
This year’s film festival is based on the theme of “Demanding justice for Rohith Vemula and Delta Meghwal”. Readers may note that suicide of Rohit Vemula and murder of dalit girl Delta Meghwal had become issues that rocked the nation earlier this year.
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) was not happy with the idea of holding discussions around the suicide or Rohit and murder of Delta. They raised issues of pointless initiation of conversation around these events and called for scrapping of the event. ABVP alleged that organisers of the film festival wanted to instigate violence amongst students and youth by reigniting debate around these issue.
Basis the complaint, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, the original place where the film festival was to be hosted, withdrew the permission to hold the festival in their auditorium. The organisers immediately rushed to Vidhya Bhawan and got permission from them to host the event in their auditorium.
Sanjay Joshi, one of the organising team member and National Convener of Cinema of Resistance said that they were undeterred by the events surrounding the festival and the festival was attracting a large audience.
