Today, on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, the Pathology Department of RNT Medical College organized a Blood Donation Camp and also did a rally to motivate people to donate blood.
In the morning, around 8.30, a rally which had more than a hundred participants carrying posters and labels of Blood Donation started from RNT Medical College and concluded at RNT after covering Chetak Circle and Delhi Gate en-route.
After the completion of the rally, a poster and debate competition was held and prizes were distributed to winners. The Superintendent of RNT Medical College, Dr. D.P. Singh was there to award the winners.
Individual donors and NGOs who host blood donation camps were also honored in the event. A total of Twenty Five units of blood was collected in the camp in which Seventeen were regular donors and Eight were new donors. Four donors who crossed the milestone of donating more than Twenty Five times were also honored at the event.
“The rally was organized to motivate the donors and also to educate the common mass to donate blood often. We require 20,000 to 22,000 unit blood every year; if we meet this quota pre-hand to the moment-of-need then we don’t have to ask patients relatives to rush for blood donation on the spot”, said Dr. Narendra Mogra, Prof. & HOD, Pathology Deptt., RNT Medical College.
There was also a group session of authority and donors, where donors shared their ideas of how to motivate individuals to donate blood and how to meet the required quota of blood.
The Blood Donation Camp would continue to run on 15th, 16th and 17th June, 2012 at the Pathology Seminar Hall, RNT Medical College.
