Indian railways may get an online registration system for registering First Information Report (FIR) in Udaipur this month. Multiple young student groups will be competing in Smart Indian Hackathon 2018 in Udaipur on March 30 and 31 for developing the system.

296 participants have been selected via countrywide screening process. They will be attempting to find an answer to the FIR registration problem faced by Indian Railways.

Current problem with Indian Railways FIR systems is that when a crime is committed in Indian Railways premises, especially in moving train, it takes a lot of time to sort out the jurisdiction.

The challenge for students is to come up with a solution that accounts for all data variables and gives a solution to the problem.

The other problems that passengers face is related to hearing announcements made on the railway platform. The announcements get missed many a times due to ambient noise. For this, Railways is looking for a solution wherein it can send real time notifications to passenger’s electronic devices.
