Udaipur to host 16th National Paralympic Swimming Championship
Arjun Award winner Prashant Karmakar, Sharad Gaikwad, 2016 Rio Paralympic participant Suresh Jadhav and wedal winner Satyendra Singh, VIshvas KS, Swapnil Patil and Alam Sheikh including 300 male swimmers and 100 women swimmers will be participating in the 16th National Paralympic Swimming Championships that will be held in Udaipur this year
International players and medal winners in international competitions, viz. Arjun Award winner Prashant Karmakar, Sharad Gaikwad, 2016 Rio Paralympic participant Suresh Jadhav and wedal winner Satyendra Singh, VIshvas KS, Swapnil Patil and Alam Sheikh including 300 male swimmers and 100 women swimmers will be participating in the 16th National Paralympic Swimming Championships that will be held in Udaipur this year. Around 100 support staff will accompany these swimmers.
Rajasthan has been allotted this years hosting rights for the 16th National Paralympic Swimming Championships and Udaipur will be the host venue for this prestigious meet. Paralympic Swimming Federation of India (PSFI) and Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) have allotted the host venue to Udaipur, the competition will be organized and coordinated by the newly formed Paralympic Swimming Society of Rajasthan, Udaipur.
President of the PSSF, Prakash Suhalka and Leena Sharma, Secretary of the Society, informed that the competition will be held from 26-30 November 2016. Leena Sharma said that the purpose of such a meet is to ensure that differently abled sports persons are able to reconcile themselves with the mainstream and also added that 400-500 paralympians will come from across the nation to participate in this competition.
The event will be held at the International standards Swimming Pool at Khel Gaon in Chitrakoot Nagar under the watchful supervision of Dr. BK Dabaas, who is the Chairman of the Para Swimming Technical Committee of PSI and Technical Director of PSFI.
Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Cabinet Ministers, State Ministers including many celebrities are expected to be present on the occasion, leading to encouragement for the participants. Efforts are on to invite the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the city on this occasion.
Suhalka and Leena Sharma informed that various institutions have been allotted the task of providing lodging boarding and food facilities to the participants and those accompanying them. It is expected that around Rs. 30 Lac will be spent during the competition, and a support of around 100 volunteers is being envisaged.
Being a National level competition, Rajasthan State Sports Council Jaipur, Sports Department of the Government of Rajasthan, District Superintendent of Police, District Collectors Office, UMC and UIT have been requested to provide maximum assistance to make the event successful.
Further, various internal committees have been formed to ensure fair play and successful completion of the event. The Technical Committee includes VIkram Singh Chandel who will be the Head Coordinator of the Technical Committee. Internation Swimming Coach Dilip Singh Chauhan will be the Joint Coordinator, Sports Office Bhilwara Gajendra Singh Rathod, Swimming Coach Jaipur Chandrashekhar Amar, Swimming Coach Udaipur Mahesh Paliwal, Swimming Coach Bhilwara Hemendra Singh Ranawat and World renowned Bhakti Sharma of Udaipur will be other members of the Committee.
The organisers informed that over the period of the competition, the participants and the support staff will be treated to Rajasthani Cultural programs in the evenings and will be invited to witness the heritage of Udaipur.
