In an attempt to put a unique step to the ongoing Swwach Bharat movement, a workshop on Hand Made Paper Works will be conducted at Shilpgram from 5th Nov – 17th Nov by WZCC.

As informed by Shailendra Dashora, “Post Gandhi Jayanti this year, we decided not to sell the old/unused publications, stationery and paper items, but to make their optimal use. In the same thought, we decided to educate people on the art of making Hand Made Paper which has got lost in today’s machine age.”

For the same, WZCC started first stage of the workshop with the help of Mirza Akbar Beigkagazi. Family of Mirza Akbar has been involved in Hand Made Paper art from a long time.

In the first phase, artists dug a hole roughly 4-5 feet long, and started the paper building process. They first took unused papers and kept them in water for 48 hours to prepare – ‘Lugdi’. The ‘Lugdi’ along with other things will later be used to make paper items.

Right now, Mirza Akbar and his co-artists are preparing – ‘Chappri’ which is one of the key element in building paper items. The resultant products vary from File Covers, Paper Bags, Lamp Shades to Envelopes and Diaries.

From 5th Nov, in the second stage of the workshop, Mirza Akbar will teach how one can make paper items with the help of ‘Lugdi’.

Interested individuals can contact Shilpgram authorities. Also, there is free entry for school students for the workshop.
