Workshop organized on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) at BNIPS, Udaipur
BN Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Udaipur organized a one day workshop and training program at BN University Seminar Hall on "Intellectual Property Rights: A Formula for Success (IPR-2018). The program was sponsored by Department of Science and Technology, Rajasthan and supported by APTI.

There were more than 300 students and faculty members present on the occasion. Chief Guest of the function was Dr G.Jeyabalan, Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, RUHS University, Jaipur and Guests of Honours were Dr RS Chouhan, Registrar, BN University and Mr Manish Jain, Incharge DST, Udaipur. Special Guests on the occasion was Dr PS Rathore, Finance Officer, BNU.
Dr CS Chauhan, Convener and Principal delivered welcome address. Dr MS Ranawat, Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, BN University emphasized on the importance of IPR and entrepreneurship in today’s era.
The main speaker on the theme were Dr Rahul Taneja, Scientist, DST, Haryana, Dr Joohee Pradhan, faculty from MLS University and Dr Kamal Singh Rathore, Associate professor, BNIPS, Udaipur.
Dr Rahul Taneja told about the IPR, patents, copyright, geographical indications, trade secrets, business designs and trademarks. He also given many latest examples on the benefits of IPR and conditions of patents.
Dr Rahul said that every year more than 11000 patents are filed by Indians and more than 300000 research work and new processes are discovered. Inventor must file for patent so that s/he get its sole rights to use along with financial benefits.
Dr Joohee said that without IPR all businesses are lame and industries face big problems because in pharmaceuticals it’s very risky and time consuming if it is not protected by patent umbrella. She also emphasized on the various steps of patent filing.
Dr KS Rathore gave examples of Dr Y.Subbarao, JC Bose and Tesla who lost economic benefits and mental peace due to not following principles of intellectual property rights and not patenting their inventions. Dr Y.Subbarao was a noted scientist who invented tetracycline, methotrexate, folic acid, ATP, hetrazan and many other molecules. Still he did not receive Nobel prize for medicine because of his unawareness of IPR.
Blueprint of the program and vote of thanks were delivered by Dr Anju Goyal, Organizing Secretary of the program. Program was anchored by Dr Deepak Marothia and Dr Amit Bhargava.
In Oral paper presentation competition Dinesh Singh got first position, Priyanka Chauhan and Kanishka Joshi got second position, and Kiran Sirvi, Akshat Sharma and Shradha Singh got third position.
