On the occasion of World Diabetes Day various programs were organized in Udaipur to create awareness among the people about the disease and how it can be controlled, delayed and avoided.

With this aim, Vedanta Group, Hindustan Zinc and Rotary Club Udaipur organized a Diabetes Camp today at Town Hall.

WHO estimates that nearly 200 million people all over the world suffer from Diabetes and this number is likely to be doubled by 2030. Another shocking fact is that, about 80% of the diabetes deaths occur in middle-income countries.

History of This Day

World Diabetes Day is celebrated on 14th November; it was started by International Diabetes federation (IDF) and WHO to mark the birth anniversary of Frederick Banting who, along with Charles Best, was instrumental in the discovery of insulin in 1922, a life-saving treatment for diabetes patients. Every year is dedicated to different issues faced by the diabetics.

The theme for the period 2009-2013 is ‘Diabetes education and prevention’.

Diabetes Camp in Udaipur:

World Diabetes Day – India Top The ChartAs more and more people are becoming conscious about their health and fitness there was good response from the people of Udaipur for this camp today.

Blood sugar test of all the patients was performed by physicians and refreshment was also made available.

There was a small exhibition to aware people about facts and precautions that could be taken to keep the illness under control.

In the Sukhadia Rang Manch Hall a program was conducted by the Art of Living team on ‘The way of living life with Diabetes’. Ms. Renu Jordia, teacher Art of Living, guided people about Diabetes and provided fruitful information about living and managing with the disease.

Diabetics in India: Top

There is no more sweetness left as India has the highest number of diabetes patient 50.8 million as per the statistics of the International Diabetes Federation. Whatever may be the reason, may it be our lifestyle or may it be our eating habits it is not at all great to be on top of the world in this statistics. This is a very crucial stage and awareness on the part of people and administration about diabetes is very essential. People should be made aware and educated about their health and fitness and about the causes and prevention of Diabetes in order to reduce the number of patients in India.

Let’s adopt a healthier lifestyle and always remain fit and fine.
