Food Safety Crackdown at Online Grocery Dark Store in Jaipur
164 packets of food items destroyed; 2 samples of ghee collected from Blinkit Dark Store in Jaipur
UdaipurTimes, Oct 5, 2026 - As part of the State Government’s Pure Food – War on Adulteration campaign, the Food Safety and Drug Control Department conducted an inspection at a Blinkit dark store in Jaipur and took action over violations of food safety standards, according to a government press release.
Following the directions of Principal Secretary, Medical and Health, Gayatri Rathore, and under the guidance of Food Safety Commissioner Avichal Chaturvedi, a central team of Food Safety officers inspected the dark store located in Vishwa Nagar, New Sanganer Road, Sodala.
Additional Commissioner Bhagwat Singh said that during the inspection, temperature-sensitive food products such as paneer, cheese, milk and curd were found stored at temperatures that did not comply with prescribed standards. Paneer and cheese were found stored at around 13°C. Some milk packets were torn and leaking. Chicken packets were also found placed in dirty crates used for milk.
During the inspection, sacks of flour were found stored alongside phenyl. Some food items were stored without pallets, while the ceiling plaster in the food storage area was found to be peeling. The racks were rusty and the floor beneath them was also found to be dirty. Oil packets kept for sale were found to be excessively dirty.
Medical certificates for food handlers in the prescribed format were not available. The premises also lacked pest-control certificates and a pest-control logbook. Dirt and spit marks were found in the loading and unloading area. It was also found that employees climbed onto the racks wearing shoes to retrieve food items.
Owing to the failure to store food items at the prescribed temperatures, a total of 164 packets of food products were destroyed on the spot. Additionally, two samples of ghee were collected for testing under the Food Safety and Standards Act based on suspected adulteration.
The Additional Commissioner said that, depending on the laboratory test results, if the food products are found to be adulterated or below the prescribed quality standards, strict penal and legal action will be taken against the concerned firm in accordance with the Food Safety and Standards Act.
He further said that compliance with food safety standards is mandatory for all food business operators and that action will continue against those who violate the prescribed regulations.
