Setting up their own charm numerous stalls at Sukhadia Circle, Fatehsagar and at end of almost every street of the city serves Chaat, GolGappe, Vada Pav, Dabeli, Pav-Bhaji, Chole Kulche etc, some of the most popular Indian snacks. They have their special place in our lives even after claims of being unhygienic and unsafe by some!!

Chaat

This all time favorite street food in various varieties like papdi chaat, sev chaat, dahi chaat is the most popular one. Most of the chaats originated from Uttar Pradesh and some from Gujarat.  Uttar Pradesh is also known as BrijBhoomi, and I think every Udaipurite loves taste of Brijwasi chaat which is quite spicy and tasty.

Stretching the mouth to full oval shape, it’s fun to gulp down at once(gappa) these hollow crisp round(gol) puri dipped with tangy flavored water. It is another very popular street food which has its origin from Magadh(Bihar). It is very famously said that there is no girl who does not love GolGappe!!!

Many famous vendors of Udaipur are at Shakti Nagar corner, Bapu Bazaar and numerous lined stalls at Sukhadia Circle which can be seen busy whole day dipping their hands in spicy water to cater this lovely food and yes with some extra onions!!!

Vada Paav

In recent times Vada Paav has gained special place in list of Udaipurites. This Maharashtrian snack with Batata Vada in between two Paavs is all time hit snack. Stall at Lok Kala Mandal, near Harbour Restaurant has become hot and happening place to relish this quickly made snack.

Pav Bhaji

Pandit’s Pav Bhaji and Bombay Pav Bhaji needs no recognition for people of Udaipur!!! Originated from textile mills of Mumbai, this dish spread to whole India with varied flavors. Smashed vegetables spicy bhaji when served hot with roasted buttered pavs arouses taste buds. It is not only served as a snack, but becomes dinner too sometimes.

Dabeli

It is another famous snack which originated from Kutch, Gujarat and spread over various other states. In Udaipur one can find many stalls of Dabeli, most famous being Stall of Shankar near Happiness and at Sukhadia Circle. Dabeli seems to be quite similar to Vada Paav, but with slight sweetness and added peanuts, pomengranete in Masala stuffed in between burger buns, it differs.

It is marking its presence in food list of Udaipurites slowly with its exquisite Punjabi flavor. Chole Kulche is flatbread of Maida served hot with chole which originated from Punjab. Stall of Balaji at Madhuban is quite famous for its Chole Kulche.
