No vending zones in the city

The city is yet to have another change. There will be 55 no-vending zones as part of smart-city project. The project is to be carried out in August.

To improve traffic conditions in Udaipur city, Municipal Corporation has come up with another project. This project aims to remove street vendors from the heavy traffic areas and shift them to other zones. The work will be carried out in different phases. In the first phase, street vendors from Court circle to Shiksha Bhawan circle will be shifted. After this the process will be carried out to convert other zones to no-vending zones.

The city will have 55 no-vending zones. Mayor Chandra Singh Kothari said that a plan has been chalked out by the corporation for this purpose. By December 2017, project ‘no-vending zones’ will be strictly followed. Street vendors have agreed to the project since they have been made aware of the benefits of Street vending management systems.

The first meeting in this step on 3rd August will decide a lot of important things. Second week of August will have the conversion of the area between Court circle to Shiksha Bhawan circle to no-vending zone. This particular area has more than 3300 street vendors.

I-cards for the street vendors

After the conversion of streets into no-vending zones, the registered vendors will be issued licenses and identity cards. These registered vendors will be allowed to carry out their business in other areas of the city. Since the vendors will be equipped with identity cards and licenses, no one will have the power (be it corporation or any other agency) to remove these vendors from their area of business. All the unregistered vendors will not be allowed to carry on with their business at any point in the city. It is important that they have themselves registered at the earliest.

Crowded areas of the city

Areas outside MB hospital and Court have a number of street vendors. Once these vendors are removed from here and re-settled in some other area, traffic condition will certainly improve. The first phase of no-vending zone will cover areas like municipal corporation, Collectorate, bus stand and all those areas which see more of traffic every day.
