More than 400 years ago from today, a revolutionary man was born in this world to enlighten the darkened souls and to waken up the long asleep perception of society. He was among first freedom fighters of India who never bowed his head in front of foreign rulers.
Maharana Pratap is a hero, whose paramount characteristic proved that even his enemy wept after Paratap’s death.
We have heard about many historical places attached with Maharana Pratap’s life and death. Haldighati, Gogunda, Khamnour, Udaipur, Aravali etc.
Every place has its own importance in Pratap’s life but Gogunda is the place where the historical Raj-Tilak (coronation) of Maharana Pratap was done. It means a lot to the followers of Pratap and even for historians, without mentioning Gogunda, the history of Pratap is incomplete.
Gogunda, situated nearly 20 kms far from Udaipur is a place known for its dense tribal belt (kotra). Tribal in Mewar majorly comefrom bhil/garasia tribe and they have a close relation with the great Rajput warrior Maharana Pratap.
Pratap’s bhil army and their warfare techniques are still unbeatable; bhils are friendly and brave tribe of Rajasthan, they are well known for their faithfulness to Maharana Pratap, hundreds of bhils sacrificed their life for Pratap and Mewar in the war of Haldighati.
History revived today when thousands of people from different regions and nearby villages of Gogunda paid their gratitude to Maharana Pratap on his 472 birth anniversary.
This event was organized by Pratap Raj Tilak Samiti Gogunda, managed by Lal Singh Jhala and Abhimanyu Singh Jhala. Udaipur’s Prince Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar played a key role of curator of the organizing committee.
The core mission was awareness of education among tribal of Gogunda.
Dignitaries who attended the event were Dr. CP Joshi, Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, Mahendrajeet Singh Malwiya, Mangilal Garasia, Sajjan Katara, Ashok Berwa, Madhu Mehta, Raghuveer Singh Meena , Lal singh Jhala and Abhimanyu Singh Jhala.
Grand procession started from Gogunda Panchayat Samiti office, it went through all over the town, people welcomed by showering flowers, garlands and slogans in memory of the great leader Maharana Pratap.
Here we tried to capture the event today with a subject particularly focused on bhil community.Concluding the procession a ceremony of Raj Tilak was done to the idol of Maharana Pratap at the same place where coronation of Pratap was done.
The event continued with an assembly addressed by all politicians with short speeches.
The common subject was focused on developing Gogunda belt by improving literacy, economy, social upliftment and various other suggestions were given by leaders.
Dr CP Joshi said, “Communal harmony is most important for any social development. Tribal are still not privileged with the ongoing development in country because they are detached from the key roles of development, the reason is lack of education. We should not raise a question and forget it, instead we need to find the answer by our own self.”
Similar program of procession on Maharana Pratap Jaynati was also carried in Udaipur by Bajrang Sena Mewar. Before procession, a traditional pooja was performed early morning by Royal family of Mewar at Maharana Pratap Memorial (Moti Magri) here are few photos of procession in Udaipur.
