In a complex operation, a team of senior doctors at Geetanjali Hospital carried out a heart by-pass surgery along with clearance of a blockage in the brain artery. This was the first of its kind operation in South Rajasthan.

In the operation lasting 6 hours, cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon Dr Sanjay Gandhi along with Dr Reenus, Dr Ankur Gandhi, Dr Kalpesh Mistri, Dr Manmohan Jindal and Dr Dharmchand were involved.

As per Dr Gandhi, the patient ManSingh (Age: 61 years) has been suffering from heart problem for last 4 years. He was admitted to Geetanjali Hospital with complaints of shortness of breath and chest pain. Ecocardiography and Angiography revealed that all three main arteries of heart and two arteries of brain had blockages. Decision on immediate operation was taken.

Reasons why the operation was critical:

Dr Gandhi informed that had they not carried out the blockage removal of both the brain and heart simultaneously, the patient would have been at the risk of paralytic attack. Had they carried out the removal of brain arteries first, the patient could have died due to heart attack. Hence, the decision of simultaneous blockage removal was taken.

The operation was carried out via carotid endarterectomy. This technique is long sustaining and also cost effective.
