Geetanjali Medical College & Hospital’s Cardiac Centre performed a successful Double Valve Replacement & By Pass Surgery of a 60 year old patient Bhanwar Lal Dangi from Udaipur (Raj.) also suffering from renal dysfunction.
According to the information provided, the patient came to Geetanjali Medical College & Hospital for treatment of valvular heart disease after getting diagnosed in some other hospital. He was suffering from this problem from last 2 to 3 years. Firstly he was admitted under Dr. Sanjay Gandhi. On evaluation it was found that the patient had altered renal function due to stones in kidney and ureter. On further evaluation it was also found that the patient was suffering from coronary artery disease which was confirmed by coronary angiography performed by Dr. Harish Sanadhya showing triple vessel disease.
Now the patient needs to go for bypass surgery and double valve replacement which was a high risk procedure especially in existing renal dysfunction. To optimize the renal function before surgery, the nephrologist, Dr. G.K. Mukhiya and urologist Dr. Pankaj Trivedi & Dr. Vishwas Baheti were consulted. They decided to relieve the obstruction of flow to urine from kidney to bladder by performing a procedure called “DJ Stenting” but again since the patient was suffering from valvular & coronary artery diseases it was a high risk procedure for them too. Cardiac anesthetist Dr. Kalpesh Mistry assisted them in the procedure and was done successfully.
After this procedure the renal function started improving and the patient was taken for bypass and double valve replacement surgery where both aortic and mitral valves were replaced. Bypass surgery was performed successfully by putting four grafts. The operation lasted 7 to 8 hours, and then the patient was shifted to CTVS ICU where he recovered well and then shifted to cardiac ward after 3 days. Now the patient is healthy and free from heart diseases and also has normal renal functions. The patient is an ESIC beneficiary.
This is one more example of institutional team efforts to treat a combined cardiac and kidney disease. The team of doctors included Nephrologist Dr. G.K. Mukhiya, Urologist Dr. Pankaj Trivedi and Dr. Vishwas Baheti. The cardiac team included Dr. Harish Sanadhya (Cardiologist), Dr. Sanjay Gandhi (Cardio Thoracic & Vascular Surgeon), Dr. Reenus Demen (Cardiac Surgeon), Dr. Ankur Gandhi, Dr. Kalpesh Mistry & Dr. Manmohan Jindal (Cardiac Anesthetist).
The surgery so performed was complex (high risk procedure) as in such cases if the surgery is performed with renal dysfunctional then it may lead to renal failure there by resulting in patient’s death.
